Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports Super Sunday, before Newcastle United's match against Sunderland, that he believes Georginio Wijnaldum is the real deal.
While many of Newcastle's summer signings have made slow starts at St. James' Park, Wijnaldum has hit the ground running.
The Dutch midfielder has scored six times in his first 10 Premier League matches, and Carragher has been very impressed by him.
"You can see he's a good player," the former Liverpool defender said. "There's been talk about Newcastle's recruitment for the last few years, but only Jamie Vardy has scored more Premier League goals than him.
"He looks the real deal for Newcastle. He's not playing in a number 10 position, he's playing in a wide position, where he can tuck inside. Newcastle aren't the most creative team, but they have got power and pace."
The highlight of Wijnaldum's time at Newcastle so far was undoubtedly his four-goal haul against Norwich City, in the Magpies' only win of the Premier League season to date.
Newcastle beat Norwich 6-2 and highlighted the attacking threat that they have in their squad, but any momentum they gained from that victory was ended by their most recent defeat to Sunderland.
Newcastle travelled to the Stadium of Light at the weekend looking to climb out of the drop zone, but they fell to a 3-0 defeat, and slipped down to 19th in the table.
Steve McClaren's side are still two points away from safety, and their next fixture comes against Stoke City on Saturday.
