Sheffield Wednesday take on Arsenal in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.
Carlos Carvalhal has confirmed to Sheffield Wednesday's official site that Joe Wildsmith will start in goal for his side's Capital One Cup tie against Arsenal on Tuesday evening.
Wednesday have generally rotated in the League Cup so far this season, and although their match against Arsenal sees them take on a high standard of opponent, Carvalhal does not intend to change his philosophy.
The Portuguese boss is keen to give Wildsmith a chance on the big stage, and he has also confirmed that Michael Turner, Alex Lopez, Marco Matias and Modou Sougou will all miss out, meaning that places are up for grabs in the Owls' line-up.
“We must wait on some players but we know Turner, Lopez, Matias and Sougou will not play," he said.
“We cannot take risks with anyone. For certain, Joe Wildsmith will play. Keiren Westwood is an amazing goalkeeper as everybody knows and Joe is a very, very talented young goalkeeper.
"I have complete confidence in Joe. When he has come into the team, he has done fantastic."
Wildsmith is only 19-years-old, but he has experience of playing against Premier League opposition, as he kept goal for Wednesday in the last round of the competition when they beat Newcastle United.
In that game he was assured and confident in everything he did, and his clean-sheet highlighted the talent that he possesses.
Wildsmith may have broken through to become a first-teamer at many Championship clubs, but Wednesday have one of the best stoppers in the division in their ranks in Kieran Westwood.
As a result, it will be up for the youngster to continue to impress in cup matches, as he looks to gather as much experience as he can.
