Sunderland’s Yann M’Vila was instrumental throughout the Wear-Tyne derby.
Sunderland midfielder Yann M’Vila put in a dominant performance as his side claimed their sixth straight derby victory with a resounding 3-0 win over rivals Newcastle United.
For large spells throughout the first-half, the Magpies dominated proceedings and looked the most likely to open the scoring until Fabriccio Coloccini was sent off and the hosts awarded a penalty.
The decision, deemed a goal scoring opportunity, raised plenty of questions but to their credit, Newcastle kept going in the second half and Sunderland needed to be strong.
The team as a whole defended stoutly against Newcastle and looked well organised, but from an individual perspective defensive midfielder Yann M’Vila was arguably the pick of the bunch.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, the former Rennes man was superb in protecting his backline and made a number of telling contributions throughout.
Aside from grabbing an assist, M’Vila made two tackles, four interceptions, four effective clearances, five defensive duel winners and eight ball recoveries as the Black Cats overcame their opponents.
Clean sheets have been hard to come by for Sunderland this season, yet Allardyce will soon put that right and the 60-year-old boss certainly has the players to help him do it.
M’Vila has been one of the club’s better additions this season, and fans writing on Twitter after the game were quick to recognise the role he played in downing their North East rivals.
M'Vila and Cattermole you played your hearts out. That's what you want from a midfield 2! #SAFC— Nick Mustard (@NMustard4) October 25, 2015
M'Vila is the best tackler I've seen whilst being a Sunderland fan. #SAFC— SD (@SDSAFC92) October 25, 2015
Younes Kaboul MOTM for Sunderland for me. M'Vila and Fletcher both good too #safc— Chris Young (@YoungSunEcho) October 25, 2015
