According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal sent scouts to check out Schalke 04 sensation Leroy Sane during the club’s midweek Europa League draw with Sparta Prague.
The 19-year-old burst onto the scene last season and made a memorable impression in the Champions League, scoring at the Santiago Bernabeu during Schalke’s 4-3 win over Real Madrid.
The German Under-21 international is widely regarded as one of the brightest sparks in the Bundesliga, scoring three goals and adding a further two assists in just five league starts this campaign.
Despite spending the first hour among the substitutes, Arsenal’s representatives weren’t left disappointed as the youngster made an immediate impact, scoring within 12 minutes of coming off the bench.
The north Londoners currently have somewhat of a German contingent at the Emirates with Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Serge Gnabry in their ranks.
Adding Sane would make sense, considering his immense ability and versatility in the final third. Predominantly an attacking midfielder, the Schalke star can also feature on either side.
One possible snag in any potential deal, however, could be Schalke’s evaluation of the player, having only recently tied him down to a new five-year contract.
