Southampton supporters were shocked and delighted by the 24-year-old at Anfield!
There was always a touch of Dani Osvaldo about Gaston Ramirez.
The Uruguayan has never been as bad but there has been a sense of lost potential and a missed opportunity at St Mary's.
Yet Southampton just might get the chance to get the best out of Ramirez now that the forward is showing signs of promise once again. Indeed, against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, it was the Ramirez of old.
Southampton, overall, might be disappointed not to take all three points from Merseyside. Liverpool will have the same feeling, though, as the home side dominated and are still suffering from a lack of creativity in the final third, something Jurgen Klopp should sort out with time.
For Southampton, though, one big positive was 24-year-old Ramirez. Sadio Mane was sent off late on and will be suspended for Ronald Koeman's side's next game. Could that present the Uruguayan with the perfect opening to claim a first-team place? Here are the thoughts of Saints fans on Twitter...
Thoroughly deserved point. And was that Gaston Ramirez? #saintsfc— Chris Wragg (@chriswragg) October 25, 2015
Gaston Ramirez was the best player on the pitch in the last 10 mins. Winning headers, making tackles, starting counters #saintsfc— George Mutter (@GthesaintMutter) October 25, 2015
Pleased with a point. Keeps us above Liverpool! Mane red card a chance for Ramirez to start? Looked good today #saintsfc— not-spooky columbo (@t0mbstoneblues) October 25, 2015
Gaston Ramirez showing some skills? What's going on?#saintsfc— Wightbuoy (@wightbuoy) October 25, 2015

Tonight just confirmed one of my biggest frustrations of supporting #saintsfc the last few years, what a mess we've made of Gaston Ramirez!— Ayd (@AydRichards) October 25, 2015
