West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini kept up his bourgeoning reputation as he put in an outstanding performance during his side’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea.
The Hammers went into the clash boasting an excellent recent record against the so-called better teams, having defeated Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool on the road already this season.
Chelsea were another scalp waiting to be turned over, yet the Blues have been poor this season and many questioned whether West Ham would begin the encounter looking to put the visitors on the back-foot.
As it was, the hosts were conservative throughout and it worked a treat as goals from Mauro Zarate and Andy Carroll either side of Gary Cahill’s close-range finish handed West Ham victory.
While Carroll will rightfully earn the plaudits for his late contribution off the bench, one of West Ham’s standout players throughout was in fact Argentine winger Lanzini.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, the youngster was heavily involved at both ends of the pitch and proved yet again that the rigours of the Premier League is certainly not too much for him to handle.
Lanzini contributed with 49 touches, 28 passes, two shots on goal and an impressive five take-ons.
With Eden Hazard on the pitch, one would suggest that the Belgian wizard would be without doubt the best ball-carrier out there yet Lanzini was just as adept with the ball at his feet.
However, the most pleasing aspect from the loan star’s display was his willingness to contribute to defensive matters, making six ball recoveries and a remarkable seven defensive duel winners.
To say Lanzini hasn’t even been West Ham’s best addition to the squad is testament to the excellent work produced by the club and their recruitment team during the summer.
