Arsenal host Everton at the Emirates Stadium this weekend in a fascinating clash which will pit two of the Premier League’s best defences on opposite sides.
Much has been made of Everton’s John Stones following an excellent campaign last season.
Chelsea attempted on multiple occasions to bring him in during the summer, according to The Mirror, but the Toffees stood firm and it’s a decision which has been widely applauded throughout the footballing community.
Stones has begun this season in excellent form, helping Roberto Martinez’s men pick up a number of impressive results including all three points against Chelsea at Goodison Park.
On Saturday, Everton face an Arsenal team buoyed by their victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League and a vastly underrated defender in the form of France international Laurent Koscielny.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, Stones and Koscienly post impressive figures in a number of key defensive categories but when comparing the two this season, there is a clear winner.
The table illustrates that Koscielny has bettered his upcoming rival in as many as six areas, posting better averages in terms of interceptions, clearances, defensive duel winners and aerial duel winners.
Moreover, the former Lorient defender is seemingly much more comfortable in possession, averaging more touches and accurate passes per Premier League encounter.
The Gunners currently boast the joint-best defensive record in the league, while their five clean sheets to date can only be matched by current leaders Manchester City.
