Southampton star Oriol Romeu has posted on Twitter that he is looking forward to returning to Anfield on Sunday, calling the famous ground one of the 'most special' he has ever played in.
The Spanish midfielder joined the Saints last summer following a four-year spell at Chelsea.
While at Stamford Bridge, Romeu rarely featured in the Premier League and made a total of just 22 league appearances, having spent the past two years on loan at Valencia and later Stuttgart.
The former Barcelona star, however, did feature in cup competitions and played against Liverpool at Anfield during the days in which Luis Suarez was really starting to make a name for himself.
Ahead of Southampton’s clash with the Reds on Sunday, Romeu looks back on his encounter at Anfield with fond memories and admits the stadium is one of the world's best.
Looking forward to be back at Anfield on Sunday, one of the most special stadiums that I've ever played #WeMarchOn— Oriol Romeu (@OriolRomeu) October 23, 2015
The 24-year-old has made four Premier League starts this season, with his last appearance for the Saints coming in the 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Tasked with marshalling his back four, Romeu will have his work cut out on Sunday as Liverpool, under new boss Jurgen Klopp, are slowly starting to pick up the German’s ideal way of playing.
Southampton can expect the Merseysiders to apply plenty of pressure out of possession and the hosts will be backed by a ferocious Anfield crowd as Klopp seeks his first win as Liverpool manager.
