Arsenal youngster Chuba Akpom is hitting his stride at Hull City.
On a stunning night at The Emirates as Arsenal beat Bayern Munich 2-0, fans could be forgiven for not noticing the promising progress of one of their loanees.
20-year-old striker Chuba Akpom produced a man of the match display for Hull City as they won 3-0 against Ipswich Town.
Akpom was on the scoresheet, netting the second goal just before half-time, and was rewarded for his efforts with a bottle of champagne.
His Arsenal teammate Aisley Maitland-Niles was not so fortunate, on the opposing side for Ipswich, playing the second 45 minutes.
Akpom's loan spell has the makings of a successful one, and he needed it. After prolific spells for Arsenal's under-18s and under-21 sides, he had struggled on previous loans at Coventry City and Nottingham Forest, failing to score a single goal.
He broke that unwanted streak on his Hull debut this season, and now has three goals in 12 games in all competitions for Steve Bruce's promotion chasers so far.
It is not a headline grabbing tally, his goal in midweek was a sign he is moving in the right direction, and with a strike for England's under-21 side earlier this month too, the opening two to three months of the season have provided a good platform for Akpom to kick on between now and the rest of the season, and develop into a player capable of making the grade at Arsenal in the future.
