Liverpool v Southampton predicted lineups and match preview

Liverpool will be hoping to get their league form on track under new manager Jurgen Klopp when they take on a very tricky Southampton side at Anfield.

To be played on Sunday 25th October 2015 at 16:15. Venue: Anfield, Liverpool

Odds: Liverpool 11/10, Draw 13/5, Southampton 58/19

It's another one of those firsts for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who takes charge of his first home league game for the Reds and he must now be hoping for the paper talk to calm down a little so that he can get his side on a decent run to improve their chances of enjoying a decent Premier League campaign.

It's a tricky fixture he faces against a Southampton side that has shown they have goals in them and are no strangers to taking the bigger sides to task - having defeated all of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal since Ronald Koeman's arrival at the club at the start of last season. He will be looking to add Liverpool to that list at his third attempt, with the Reds expected to field at least two former Saints in Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana.

Both sides will be looking to make up some ground on the sides above them with a win. Jose Fonte has spoken about Southampton's ambition - though some would argue it improbable - of qualifying for the Champions League this season, while it's evident that it will be one of Klopp's aims after succeeding the sacked Brendan Rodgers, even if the two draws from his opening two games suggest he has a big task ahead of him.

Liverpool will have been happy to see two players return from injury on Thursday night, with both Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino appearing a second half subsitutes, and Klopp would hope to have Daniel Sturridge available, albeit not from the start. The top end of the field will be an interesting area to watch in terms of team selection.

Southampton seem to have found their scoring touch, with a very impressive victory over Chelsea prior to the international break, but letting a two-goal lead slip against Leicester is a worry. There seems to be goals wherever the Saints go right now, and Liverpool are struggling on that front. It could be an interesting conclusion to the weekend's action.
