Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri discusses where he wants Riyad Mahrez to improve

Riyad Mahrez has been one of Leicester City's standout performers so far this season.

Claudio Ranieri has told Leicester City's official website that he has been urging Riyad Mahrez to stay calm in the final third of the pitch.

Mahrez has been one of the Foxes' most dangerous players this season, and has already chipped in with five goals and three assists in his first eight Premier League appearances.

But, Ranieri is seeking further improvement in the Algeria international's game, as he wants him to become even more clinical when he gets into threatening positions.

“Riyad can play everywhere because his skill is amazing," he said. "When he starts from the left and goes inside from the right he is dangerous, but he is dangerous everywhere.

“It’s important he runs with the ball in the middle. He has to stay calm and show his ability in the last 20 or 25 meters. This is the goal with him. He knows what I ask of him.”

Mahrez has actually been on the bench for Leicester in their last two games against Norwich City and Southampton.

The 24-year-old did not even get onto the pitch against the Canaries, but he made a huge impact at St. Mary's, when he came on at half-time.

The winger terrorised the Saints' defence, and played a huge part as Leicester came back from 2-0 down to claim a point.

That draw meant Leicester stood firm in fifth place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against Crystal Palace at the weekend.
