Jason Roberts predicts a West Ham victory over Chelsea

West Ham Upton Park

West Ham United face Chelsea at Upton Park on Saturday.

Former Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts has backed West Ham United to continue their fine run of form with a 3-2 victory over upcoming opponents Chelsea, on Breathe Sport.

The Hammers head into the clash having beaten another London side in the form of Crystal Palace 3-1 last weekend, a result which maintained their spot in the top four.

Chelsea have encountered all sorts of problems this season and that aura of invincibility which served them so well during last season’s championship winning campaign has well and truly disappeared.

Speaking to Breathe Sport ahead of the clash at Upton Park, former Blackburn forward Roberts predicts current fortunes to continue for both teams, with a home win on the cards.

“Who would have thought going in to matchday 10 we would be talking about a West Ham team who find themselves in fourth position, and a Chelsea team who find themselves in 12th positon,” he said.

“As well as that, who would have said that West Ham having scored 20 goals so far would be up against a Chelsea defence have conceded 17 after being the meanest defence in the league last season?”

“So surprisingly, or not surprisingly, I’m going with a West Ham victory, 3-2.”

West Ham’s chances of success against Chelsea could be defined by their approach to the game and how they deal with the absence of Victor Moses.

The Chelsea-owned winger provides plenty of width for the Hammers, yet up against the so-called better teams, the East Londoners have found more success dropping deep and countering through the middle.

While Michail Antonio is a plausible replacement, Slaven Bilic’s men might find more success in adding an extra body in the middle of midfield and snuffing out the danger posed by the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Oscar and Willian.
