Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has taken to social networking site Twitter to express his delight at being nominated for the 2015 FIFA Ballon d’Or award.
The Ivory Coast international is on a shortlist of 23 players for the most prestigious individual prize in the world football.
Reading through Ballon d'Or shortlist. So many fantastic players! Great to be in 23 & also represent Africa! pic.twitter.com/fwZnWIHFC3— Yaya Touré (@YayaToure) October 22, 2015
Toure did not win any major trophy with City last season, but he did help the Ivory Coast win the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
The former Barcelona star is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, but it is very unlikely that he will win the 2015 Ballon d’Or award.
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo are the two frontrunners for the prestigious prize, while Robert Lewandowski should also be in contention for his fine performances for Bayern Munich and Poland.
Luis Suarez and Neymar, both Barcelona players, should also be considered genuine contenders for the 2015 Ballon d’Or award.
