Paul Simpson pleased to see Paul Dummett return for Newcastle United

Paul Dummett played his part in Newcastle United's 6-2 victory over Norwich City last Sunday.

Newcastle United assistant manager Paul Simpson has told the Chronicle that he was delighted to see Paul Dummett return to the first team for their match against Norwich City.

The Magpies beat Norwich 6-2, with Dummett named in the starting line-up for the first time this season, after he overcame his injury struggles.

And Simpson was pleased to have the Welsh defender back for selection again, even if Steve McClaren was only able to use him for an hour.

“We're delighted that Paul Dummett was able to get 60 minutes, which was always the plan," he said.

“That plan worked fantastic and the fact Massadio Haidara was able to get the next part of the game."

Dummett divides opinion at St. James' Park, but his passion for the club cannot be questioned and that will be crucial, given the position they are currently in.

Newcastle have made an awful start to the new season, but their performance against Norwich was easily their best of the season to date.

The Magpies still looked weak at the back, but they showed great promise going forward and they now have something to build on.

Newcastle's next match comes against Sunderland, and the derby promises to be crucial to both side's seasons, as the North East duo are both sat in the relegation zone at the moment.
