Liam Palmer wants regular action at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday

Liam Palmer has been handed just four Championship appearances for Sheffield Wednesday this season.

Sheffield Wednesday defender Liam Palmer has told the Sheffield Star that he wants to knock Daniel Pudil and Jack Hunt off their perches, as he battles for a place in Carlos Carvalhal's starting line-up.

Pudil and Hunt have been Wednesday's two first-choice full-backs so far this season, with Palmer having to take a backseat role.

However, after the 24-year-old was recalled to the Wednesday team which drew 0-0 with Queens Park Rangers in midweek, he is hoping to stake his claim for a regular starting berth.

"We have got good players in Daniel and Jack who have been playing, but we are trying to knock them off their perch," he said. "You just never when you are going to be called upon so you have to give your all and leave it all out on the pitch."

The fact that Palmer has struggled so badly for appearances this season highlights the quality that the Owls have at their disposal.

The versatile defender was a key part of the Owls' efforts last term, but the additions that Carvalhal has made over the summer transfer window have made Wednesday a much stronger outfit.

The Yorkshire side are now unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions and optimism regarding what could lie ahead is starting to build at Hillsborough.

Wednesday's next match comes against Rotherham United on Friday night, and they will be hoping to extend their good run of results against their local rivals.
