Report: Florian Thauvin open to leaving Newcastle in January

Summer signing Thauvin has yet to impress with Newcastle.

Newcastle signed Florian Thauvin from Marseille over the summer, but a report in Mercato365 has suggested that his time with the Magpies could already be coming to an end.

The 22-year-old winger has played seven games for Newcastle since joining, but his only good performance game against Northampton in the League Cup, when he registered a goal and two assists in a 4-1 win.

He has looked ineffective in the Premier League, and head coach Steve McClaren does not seem to count the French youth international as part of his core group of players which make up his starting XI.

Considering his poor performances, Thauvin has been coming under some criticism, and it could be that he leaves St James’ Park as soon as January.

The report claims that Thauvin would be open to leaving Newcastle when the January transfer window opens, despite signing a contract until 2020 just a few months ago.

However, there is an issue with a potential exit from Newcastle, with FIFA regulations meaning he cannot play for three sides in the space of a year. Having already turned out for Marseille and the Magpies, he would not be allowed to play for another club this year - the same situation that Hatem Ben Arfa was in when he left the Tyneside club last season.
