Report: Brighton still keen on Argentine sensation Jonathan Calleri

But the club look unlikely to sign him as Inter Milan swoop.

Brighton and Hove Albion remain interested in the signing of Argentine sensation Jonathan Calleri, according to reports in Italy. Tutto Mercato Web say that Calleri will likely move on from Boca Juniors in the summer and that Brighton remain keen.

The Argus reported the link about an apparent move for the player in the summer. Brighton purportedly bid around £5 million for the player, according to reports in Argentina, in what would have been a sensational move - but Argus claimed no such bid was made.

Calleri is a player who has been watched by both Arsenal and Liverpool, according to the Daily Star, and at just 21 is a real star of the future.

However a move to Inter Milan still looks more likely. Inter are still said to be the frontrunners in this race and Calleri spoke this summer about his desire to play for the Nerazzuri. He told Vavel:

"I knew that I would not be sold and I did not want to go. I want to win the title, I feel comfortable here.

"I have three more years contract with the club. In the future I would get to the Italian League, resembles my style of play. My desire is to play at Inter Milan."

It would of course be a fantastic signing which would signify the ambition of the Seagulls who are currently riding high in the Championship and have an eye on promotion to the Premier League.

However, Internazionale are certainly a big foe to go head-to-head with.
