The Hammers have been in excellent form away from home this season – recording famous wins against Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City – but have struggled to pick up three points at the Boleyn.
Their sole home win came against an abject Newcastle side last month, while the likes of Bournemouth, Norwich and Leicester have all left East London with points.
Parlour feels they need to revert to the play style they use away if they are to beat Chelsea and the Hammers faithful need to get behind the approach.
“I think they will play like they do away from home this weekend. Sit back and defend, let Chelsea have a lot of the ball and then hit them on the break,” said the former Arsenal midfielder on ‘Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast’ show on talkSPORT this morning (aired at 08:55).
“I think that’s how they’ve got to play because they’ve done it at the Etihad, the Emirates, Anfield and Palace at the weekend – and it’s worked.
“Instead of the Upton Park crowd expecting them to take the game to Chelsea, I think they will say ‘right Chelsea, you take the game to us and we will hit you on the break’ like they do away from home,” he added.
A positive result against the Blues on Saturday would continue West Ham’s remarkable start to the season and give the squad real belief that they can achieve something special this season.
