Former Rotherham United boss Steve Evans was the last name anybody expected to see announced as Leeds United head coach this week - except crucially club owner Massimo Cellino.
The Italian sacked Uwe Rosler on Monday and swiftly replaced him with Evans, who left the Millers last month.
Evans' spiky personality and aggression have led to him becoming a figure of fun for opposition fans, but he is not a manager lacking in self confidence, and may have begun to win over Leeds supporters by making a positive first impression at his opening press conference.
When his appointment was announced, fans reacted angrily and with disbelief, but he may be winning a few over, or at least supporters are begrudgingly realising they need to get behind him for the good of the club.
He told The BBC he has no intention of changing, stating: "I know what comes with being the head coach of this club. I have a big responsibility so I need to do some things differently - but I will still be me.
"I will be a manager of Leeds United that opposition players and management won't like."
Results will help turn his perception around further, and to this end the only way appears to be up. Predecessor Uwe Rosler only managed two victories in 11 games, and left after three successive losses.
This may just have been his most important quote - which will define him one way or another if he can or cannot live up to it: "The Leeds fans can get ready for winning football because that is going to come."
Leeds travel to Fulham on Wednesday evening, a ground at which they won last season, and will be hoping for a repeat.
Here is a look at how fans reacted to Evans' opening press conference, and how he has begun to win over a few of the club's supporters...
Evans seems to have come across well today. Let's see if there's a difference 'on the grass' tomorrow vs Fulham' #lufc— Mike Heal (@MHeal10) October 20, 2015
Steve Evans Presser - handled well, spoke sense. However - I can't get excited over Steve bloody Evans! #LUFC— James Proctor (@JamesProctor93) October 20, 2015
Steve Evans in full David Brent mode during his 1st presser as #lufc boss. A lot of referring to himself in the third person.— Michael Wood (@michaelwood27) October 20, 2015
Good presser from Evans, strong personality tbf. This league requires consistency and a hard working team. If he brings that he'll do well.— Aaron Bentley (@AarroonnB) October 20, 2015
Well, I enjoyed that presser. Evans handled himself well, said all the right things, good news on Cooper and in particular Byram. #lufc— Big Leigh Nicholson (@LeighNicholson) October 20, 2015
Cant help but like Steve Evans and how he comes across. Very humble (unlike Hockadays first presser) + know's he lucky to have opportunity.— Marko (@MarkB2908) October 20, 2015
Steve Evans might actually be the right choice for leeds, he seems so passionate... And I bet he'd rip into the players too— Perkins (@GrantPerkinsss) October 20, 2015
