Liverpool could soon be welcoming back one of their side-lined stars, while two others have had successful operations.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the club’s official website about two of his injured stars, while giving a positive update regarding something of a forgotten man at Anfield.
The Reds suffered a terrible double blow earlier this month when Danny Ings and Joe Gomez were both seemingly ruled out for the rest of the season with serious knee injuries, and Klopp has since confirmed that both players have now had their operations and will be starting their long roads to recovery.
“Ings and Gomez had their operations, they were as positive as operations can be,” Klopp told liverpoolfc.com. “Everything is fine and they are on their way back. There were no difficulties or complications.”
Both players had impressed since arriving at Anfield in the summer, with Gomez starting the campaign as Liverpool’s first-choice left-back, until he was replaced more recently by Alberto Moreno, and Ings coming into his own alongside Daniel Sturridge.
But despite their prolonged absence there was better news regarding Jon Flanagan – a player who has not featured for Liverpool either this season or last due to long-term injury problems.
With Gomez out, Flanagan’s return would be welcomed, and Klopp confirmed the 22-year-old is making good progress.
“(Jordan) Henderson and Flanagan are getting better and better,” the Liverpool boss said, and when he finally takes to the field again expect the young Englishman to get a rapturous reception.
