Derby County boss Paul Clement comments on Chris Martin's future

Sunderland are reportedly interested in signing Derby County forward Chris Martin.

Paul Clement's comments on Derby County's official site suggest that he is not interested in any sort of transfer deal for Chris Martin in January.

HITC ran reports yesterday, stating that Sunderland have made the Derby striker their number one target in the January transfer window.

However, Clement has claimed that he would not be interested in swapping Martin for anybody at this moment in time.

“We have an excellent striker ourselves in Chris Martin who is in fantastic form; he’s scoring goals and playing well too - I wouldn’t swap him for anyone,” he said.

“We have been scoring more goals as a team lately which is just what we want and Chris has led the line very well.”

Martin was Derby's top-scorer last season, and he has carried that form into the new term, with the front-man's performances very impressive.

The Scotland international has netted seven goals in his first 11 appearances this season, and he scored twice in Derby's win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend.

His performance in that fixture drew a lot of praise, with Ian Holloway speaking publicly about his admiration for Martin's display on Sky Sports.

Martin's form has been a major reason behind the Rams' excellent run of results of late, which has lifted them up into the play-off places, and it seems that Clement has no intentions to sell the striker, despite Sunderland's rumoured interest.
