The mercurial attacker is on loan from Benfica.
Nottingham Forest may have had their hands tied in recent times by the Football League due to breaking financial fair play regulations but they did manager to bring in some eye-catching signings regardless.
One such player was Portuguese international forward Nelson Oliveira.
The former Swansea City loanee arrived from Benfica for the season and hopes are high that he will go on to become a star at the City Ground.
So far he has had his ups and downs but one man thinks he knows when Oliveira, who was compared to Eric Cantona as a youngster, is at his best - when he is not thinking.
Brian Laws spent six years with Forest as a player - winning the League Cup twice.
Nowadays the former Burnley gaffer works as a pundit for BBC Nottingham Sport and he stated on the subject of Oliveira yesterday:
"Oliveira's much better when he's had less time to think about what to do... when he acts instinctively."
Oliveira is certainly an instinctive player. His natural ability means he can do things off the cuff at a much higher level than many of his team-mates and it could be argued this is the way he should play the game.
At the moment Oliveira is still probably only at 50% for Forest which must be a positive thought for any Reds fans.
If he can continue to improve, he could become a real cult hero.
