West Ham United's James Collins praises club's attackers

West Ham United defender James Collins has made just three Premier League appearances so far this season.

James Collins has told West Ham United's official site that everyone at the club believes that if they can defend well, they have a good chance of winning any match they are competing in, due to the strength of the attacking players at Upton Park.

The Hammers have scored 20 times in the Premier League already, a total which only Manchester City have bettered.

And Collins believes that having the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet is extremely valuable to the team, as they have confidence that they will create opportunities in every match.

“Manuel has been tremendous – him and Dimitri are both flair players who can create chances and score goals. Both of them are doing unbelievably for us," he said.

“We’ve got boys who work hard and get behind the ball. We defend well and the lads up front score goals. So anywhere we go we know that if we defend well we’ll create chances.”

West Ham have assembled a hugely talented squad, with Slaven Bilic bringing in some wonderful players during the summer transfer window.

It has meant that competition for places has greatly increased at the club, and Collins has been one of the biggest losers from that.

The Welsh centre-back has been forced to the periphery of the team, and he has only made three Premier League appearances so far.

Collins did play against Crystal Palace in West Ham's latest fixture, which they won 3-1, and he admits that it was great to be involved again.

“It was amazing to be back in the starting line-up," the experienced defender added. "The gaffer told me on Thursday, when I got back from Wales, that I’d be playing and I was excited from then.

“It’s been a long time since I started a Premier League game and to be on the winning side is great."
