The diminutive forward has been in excellent form for the Magpies this season.
The 22-year old has impressed in recent weeks and looks to be forming a dangerous partnership with Aleksandar Mitrovic, but the Magpies may face a struggle keeping him at St James Park for the second half of the campaign.
The Spaniard addressed the Tottenham links after the transfer window and left the door open to a potential future move.
“There was interest from Tottenham, especially Pochettino,” said Perez. “It’s a very nice compliment for me. In the end it did not work because Newcastle considered me too important and would not let me leave.”
Tottenham’s need for further options up front has been well-documented, with their failure to secure Saido Berahino over the summer leaving them slightly short in attacking areas, and there's every chance they will look to address that in January.
Harry Kane’s slow start to the season hasn’t helped matters and it’s easy to see why Pochettino would want to add the dynamic Spaniard to his ranks come the New Year.
