Garth Crooks impressed with Liverpool duo’s displays against Tottenham

Liverpool played out a goalless draw with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the Premier League on Saturday.

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Garth Crooks has been singing the praises of Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet on BBC Sport.

Crooks was impressed with the performance of the Belgium international against Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Mignolet played an important role in Liverpool keeping a clean sheet in the Premier League encounter in North London.

The former Sunderland star made as many as four saves, as the match ended in a goalless draw.

Former Tottenham forward Crooks has included Mignolet in his BBC Sport Premier League Team of the Week and has stated: “The Belgium international was outstanding and produced a number of superb saves.

“If Mignolet can continue in this form and Klopp can get Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge fit and scoring goals, along with a couple of additions in January, perhaps a top-four finish is not out of the question.”

Another Liverpool player whose performance against Tottenham impressed Crooks is defender Mamadou Sakho, who also finds himself in the BBC Sport Premier League Team of the Week.

“A player who doesn't often get the plaudits he deserves is Mamadou Sakho,” Crooks wrote about the central defender. “It was the Frenchman's performance - as opposed to the normally dependable Martin Skrtel - that stood out against Spurs.

“It will be interesting to see if Sakho can convince Klopp he's worth a long-term investment or whether, as I suspect, the German will try to attract a big-name signing, probably from his old club Borussia Dortmund.”

France international centre-back Sakho had a pass accuracy of 88%, won 60% of his headers, and made three inceptions, nine clearances and two blocks.

Liverpool are 10th in the Premier League table at the moment with 13 points from nine matches, four points behind fourth-place West Ham United.
