One sentence that best describes Derby County’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday

This was the performance of the side many predicted Derby County to be before a ball was even kicked.

After an unconvincing start to the season by Derby County, the win against Wolverhampton Wanderers proves why many tipped them to be promoted before the start of the season.

An excellent attacking display by Paul Clement’s side ensured that the doubts brewed in August are now well and truly forgotten as Chris Martin, Johnny Russell and Bradley Johnson all put their name on the scoresheet in the Rams’ 4-2 win.

Head Coach Paul Clement boasted after the game that it was his side’s best performance of the season to date and deserving of their victory.

"Our [Derby] best performance of the season,’’ Clement was quoted as saying by the BBC. ‘’We've had some good first halves and some good second halves, but this time we were solid throughout and were deserved victors.’’

Can Derby win promotion from the Championship this season?

The opening five games, which resulted in four draws and a loss, did little to support critics claims they were the team to beat this season. However, since then, the East Midlands side have been resilient and picked up result after result.

Nevertheless, until the performance against Wolves, it was still treated as an unconvincing start due to the slow tempo and lack of invention from the club’s most creative players.

The home win against Brentford prior to the international break did show glimpses it could be heading in the right direction, however, the performance against Wolves ensured it.

If Clement can keep the likes of Johnson and Martin in-form for the coming months, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Rams on top of the pile during the Christmas season once again.

From then on, however, they will need to show the character they lacked last season to get themselves over the line.
