What did Newcastle United's players have to say after their outstanding weekend victory?
Newcastle United defeated Norwich City 6-2 at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon in what was arguably the most entertaining game of the Premier League season to date.
Prior to the match neutrals would have been forgiven for not expecting much from this encounter, but the Magpies and the Canaries had other ideas and when the full-time whistle blew eight goals had been scored…and plenty more could have been considering some of the defending on show.
Georginio Wijnaldum scored four goals with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez grabbing the others, while Dieumerci Mbokani and Nathan Redmond replied for Norwich.
With the score-line 3-2 at half-time this one could have gone either way but it was Newcastle who ran riot in the second period and finished the game in style.
After the match some of Newcastle’s players took to Twitter to celebrate their success, including man-of-the-moment Wijnaldum who said, “What an afternoon and what support from the fans; proud of the team and really happy with my four goals.”
Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul also had his say having been forced to watch the match due to his recent injury setback, while young defender Kevin Mbabu also celebrated, hailing what he called a “big performance”.
