The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder shone against Liverpool and his fans were quick to acknowledge that.
If a week is a long time in politics it can be even longer in football, just ask Mousa Dembele.
Just six days ago, Italian newspaper Tuttosport claimed the Belgian international had already held talks with Napoli regarding a January move, with the Serie A Side allegedly said to be prepared to offer £10million for the player.
Fast-forward to Saturday and Dembele shone for Tottenham in their 0-0 draw against Liverpool, and after Spurs fans had finished voting for their man-of-the-match the 28-year-old was the emphatic winner.
On Sunday morning, after the dust had settled on an eventful if scoreless draw, Tottenham’s official Twitter account announced that Dembele had won the prestigious award with a huge 81 per cent of the vote.
So given the recent speculation surrounding his future it seems the Tottenham fans have clearly spoken, at least based on Dembele’s latest performance
Will he still be at White Hart Lane next season, or even for the second half of this one? Only time will tell, but if he keeps playing like he did on Saturday Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino would be crazy to let him go.
