Rodney Marsh reacts on Twitter to Ross Barkley's performance v Manchester United

The former forward was left unimpressed by the Everton midfielder at Goodison Park.

Rodney Marsh was surprised at Ross Barkley's performance during Everton's 3-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.

Indeed, the Toffees were comprehensively beaten by Louis van Gaal's United side at Goodison Park.

And Marsh feels Barkley produced 'dross' from his set-pieces, despite the Everton star being a 'quality player.'

The three-goal loss drops Everton down to ninth in the Premier League, while Manchester United are third on goal difference, recovering the three goals they lost against Arsenal.

Perhaps Barkley's performance and lack of set-piece quality against United sums up where the Everton star has to improve to make it to the next level... in terms of his consistency.

Barkley's talent has been obvious for all to see - both in an Everton and England shirt.

But the 21-year-old is known for being hit and miss when it comes to producing every single week. Performing against Lithuania is one thing, meanwhile, but Manchester United are the kind of team the best players thrive against.

Still, this was simply a day to forget for Everton as a whole and they won't play an in-form United side every week.
