The Brazilian says the players are determined to prove their worth to new manager Jurgen Klopp.
The German inherited the reins at Anfield last week following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers, with many now anticipating the good times to return for the Reds.
He takes on Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on his Premier League bow, in Saturday’s early kick off, and Lucas says he and the rest of the squad are desperate to prove themselves at the start of a new era.
“Everyone wants to prove themselves,” he told liverpoolfc.com.
“Of course, it’s always a tough game, but in the last couple of games we were good against them. Hopefully we keep that going and start this new chapter with a good win.”
The former Borussia Dortmund boss has not had a perfect start to life in England, though, having taken to his new post during the international break.
That meant his initial training sessions have seen him working with a reduced squad, while he has also lost Danny Ings and Joe Gomez to injuries that have ruled them out for the rest of the season.
But Lucas is eager to ignore the negatives and instead focus on the players who are available, with a clean slate offered to all of those still in contention for Klopp.
“It’s not ideal when you have players away and a few players will only have been back for a couple of days before the game,” he added.
“It’s a fresh start for everyone – everyone will be really excited to have a good game. Hopefully it will be a good start for him and for the players as well.”
