Joe Cole's loan move from Aston Villa to Coventry City caught many people by surprise on Friday afternoon.
Plenty didn't realise Cole still played for Aston Villa - but plenty were sad to see such an England icon, once touted as one of the foremost talents of world football, dropping down to League One.
With his lack of game time in the Premier League, of course, it's an admirable move from the 33-year-old. But some Aston Villa fans feel it's the end of the road for the veteran midfielder if that's the best he can come up with.
Generally, reaction has been more positive from West Ham United fans on Twitter. Cole still generates heavy interest among the Upton Park faithful. He was, after all, one of West Ham's favourite sons.
It'll be interesting to see how Cole gets on in League One. Will he stay fit enough? Or will the former England man simply pass on his knowledge to all those at Coventry?
Either way, it looks as though the 33-year-old won't be getting a look in at Aston Villa any time soon. Here's how both Villa and West Ham fans reacted on Twitter to news of Cole's loan move:
Joe cole out on loan to coventry. His days are up im afraid if he has to drop that low to get playing time. #avfc— Phil Rees (@York_Villa) October 16, 2015
