Tim Sherwood’s future at Villa has come under speculation in recent days, with The Sun reporting earlier this week that Lerner was “furious to discover” that the manager had “bad-mouthed aspects of the club’s transfer business over the summer.”
Former Villa striker Sutton has given his taken on the situation and has written on BBC Sport: “I get why the club's owner Randy Lerner might be getting twitchy because of the amount of money at stake if they go down, but the logical thing to do is to give Sherwood more time because he is an intelligent man who has already shown he can improve players - which is exactly what Villa need now.”
Villa are third from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with just four points from eight matches.
The Villans’ performances have been dire, and Sherwood does need to sort out things quickly.
It is not going to get any easier for Villa, though, as they will face Chelsea away from home in the Premier League this afternoon.
Although Jose Mourinho’s side are struggling for points and for form as well, playing at Stamford Bridge will give them an advantage.
Villa have taken only one point from seven league games since beating Bournemouth on the opening day. Sherwood's team have lost four matches in a row by a one-goal margin.
