Speaking to talkSPORT (aired at 08:50), Everton head coach Roberto Martinez has reacted to Liverpool’s appointment of Jurgen Klopp, admitting he is a coach who deserves a lot of respect for the values he shows on the football field.
Martinez said: “He’s a forward thinking manager, he likes to attack, he’s always thinking about scoring goals. I think, humanly, I have huge respect [for him]. He got relegated with Mainz and stayed, so I think he is someone with very strong human values, and I think he will be a very good fit for the Premier League.”
It was Martinez who played a key role in the sacking of Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool head coach, as following the 1-1 draw between Everton and the Reds, Rodgers lost his job.
It took less than a week following Rodgers’ sacking before Klopp was officially appointed as head coach, and he heads into his first game this weekend, taking charge of the Merseyside club as they travel to North London to take on Spurs.
This game comes too soon for Klopp to have had that large of an impact upon the Liverpool side, and a draw should be considered a good result against an in form Tottenham team, but there are no doubts about Klopp’s impact going forward.
He seems to be the perfect coach for the Anfield club, and Martinez believes his style of football, and the values he has in regards to the game, make him a great fit for English football.
Fans of all sides have long wanted to see Klopp in the Premier League, and many will be keeping a close eye on Liverpool to see how they grow and develop under a coach with all the skills to take them back to the pinnacle of English football.
