The young Liverpool striker will miss the rest of the season.
Just when Liverpool fans thought it could not get any worse after Joe Gomez was ruled out for the season, another summer signing suffered the same fate.
Danny Ings has looked impressive for the Reds in recent weeks but the former Burnley player suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his first training session under new manager Jurgen Klopp, meaning the German will already be bemoaning his bad luck.
Shortly after the news of Ings’ setback Liverpool fans started having their say on social media with most feeling it was a devastating blow while some suggested a few teenagers and fringe players who could now be given a chance in the forward’s absence.
With Christian Benteke also currently side-lined, Liverpool supporters have thrown the names of Jerome Sinclair, Sheyi Ojo and Samed Yesil into the mix, although Divock Origi will no doubt be the next in line.
Ojo is currently on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers and as he is predominantly a left winger, the prospect of him coming in to replace Ings is something of a long-shot, but Sinclair will definitely be a viable option for Klopp.
Sinclair is a 19-year-old centre forward who has featured three times for Liverpool’s first-team to date, including in last season’s clash against Chelsea.
As for Yesil, the 21-year-old is currently on loan at Luzern where he has scored one goal and provided one assist in four appearances to date.
He may have been blighted by injuries in recent seasons but there is no doubt Yesil possesses innate talent and this could have been the perfect chance for him to get some game-time at Anfield, but like Ojo, his loan switch means Sinclair and Origi are surely the best short-term bets.
@AnfieldRd96 Just as Ings was getting on a roll....terrible news.— William Ou ♚ (@UnrequitedOu) October 15, 2015
Ings out for the season is awful news. He had started well for us and I had hoped he was tailor made for the klopp regime— Liverweb (@liverweb) October 15, 2015
First Gomez, now Ings. Absolutely awful news. Two players that have hit the ground running and now out for the rest of the season #bigblow— Scouse Mick (@MRoboLFC) October 15, 2015
Terrible news Ings, Gomez wish them the Best. Look forward to see Origi help healthy Sturridge and calling back Ojo #LFC— Montreal YNWA (@MontrealYNWA) October 16, 2015
Ings and Rossiter injured, well too bad for them, but it means pretty much nothing for #LFC as a team. Better players available.— NE Mossing (@NilsMossing) October 16, 2015
Maybe this ings injury leads the way for sinclair to get a run in the team?— LFCstuff (@Kopstuff_LFC) October 16, 2015
