According to the Daily Mail, Ghana international Baba Rahman could make his debut for Chelsea in the game against Aston Villa this weekend.
The report states the 21-year-old could be handed the chance to impress by Jose Mourinho after an injury to Branislav Ivanovic. It adds that the most likely scenario would lead to Cesar Azpilicueta moving to right-back, leaving Rahman to fill the vacant left-back slot.
Rahman has only played twice for Chelsea since his move to Stamford Bridge, once in the Champions League and once in the League Cup, so it could be an ideal opportunity to test him against Premier League opposition.
Who should play left-back for Chelsea this weekend?
After the poor start to the season, especially defensively, the disruption won't be welcomed by Mourinho as he looks to put a consistent back four together.
Although all the signs are pointing to Rahman making his debut, the other option would be to directly replace Ivanovic with Kurt Zouma, allowing Azpilicueta to retain his left-back slot.
Zouma has more experience at Premier League level, and would seem the lesser risk. However, Rahman does need a chance to show that he is worthy of a place in the Chelsea squad.
If he is overlooked this weekend, considering the injuries and poor form, then questions will be asked to when he can expect to get a chance to play in the Premier League.
