Former Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has been offered the vacant Doncaster Rovers manager's job, HITC Sport understands from sources to the club.
Doncaster are searching for a new manager following the departure of Paul Dickov from the Keepmoat Stadium last month.
A number of names have been linked with the vacancy, but Ferguson is thought to be at the top of the club's wanted list.
Ferguson, the son of ex- Manchester United boss Sir Alex, left his second spell at Peterborough in February after four years in charge at London Road.
The Scot has held talks with Doncaster and after interviewing several candidates, the Rovers board are understood to have plumped for Ferguson.
Doncaster currently sit just one place above the relegation drop zone in League One and the club believe Ferguson is the right man to lift them up the table.
Ferguson has a wealth of experience, having twice guided Peterborough to promotion from League One to the Championship as well as winning the Johnstone's Paint Trophy during his two spells in charge of the Posh.
