Despite Brighton and Hove Albion and Middlesbrough’s strong start to the season, former Wolverhampton Wanderers 'keeper Matt Murray believes Derby County are still the favourites for the Championship title.
Former Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Matt Murray believes Paul Clement’s Derby County side should still be considered the favourites for the Championship title.
Murray told Wolves’ official website: ‘’For me Derby are still the favourites for the division, so if we could go and get a draw – or even a win – the momentum and the belief would continue to grow.’’
Despite a slow start to the season, which saw Clement’s side pick up just one win from their opening five games, Derby are currently sitting in seventh place and are just one point off Reading in third.
Who should be considered the favourites for the Championship title?
Although Brighton have been dubbed a surprise package this season, Middlesbrough’s start is far from unexpected.
After losing in the play-off final last season, the North East outfit were strongly touted to bounce back and win promotion to the Premier League under Aitor Karanka.
The former Real Madrid coach has since added to his squad and had the start to the season many Boro supporters were hoping for following their loss at Wembley to Norwich City last May.
Derby, on the other hand, are still yet to hit full form and have shown a number of bedding-in issues that Clement is currently getting to grips with.
Nevertheless, considering the talent in the squad, the Rams have to be considered one of the favourites as they have a hatful of players who, on their day, can be match-winners at Championship level.
Derby and Middlesbrough should be considered two of the favourites, if not the favourites, while Brighton continue to remain the dark horse in the race for a Premier League spot next season.
