Etherington believes Payet can emulate West Ham hero Tevez.
When asked if there are comparisons between the two, Etherington said: “I think so. Both can turn a game on it’s head. I think with the start Payet has made this season, he can definitely emulate Carlos and become a real fan’s favourite here at Upton Park.”
Tevez spent just one season with the East London side, establishing himself as a cult hero due to his incredible talent, work rate and attitude - and for his role in keeping West Ham in the Premier League.
Considering he spent such a short amount of time with the side, he did brilliantly to become such a fan favourite, and it already looks as if Payet is working his way towards the same title.
He is adored by the West Ham fans for his delightful displays of technical football, and it is hard to imagine how the East London side managed to sign him considering his talent.
He has scored four goals and registered three assists in just eight Premier League games, and looks to be loving his time at the Boleyn Ground.
The Frenchman is well on his way to emulating Tevez, and West Ham fans will just be hoping that he stays with the Hammers for longer than the diminutive Argentine did.
