Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri confirms Mahrez and Schlupp missed Thursday's training session

Leicester City could be without Riyad Mahrez and Jeffrey Schlupp for their game against Southampton at the weekend.

Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri has confirmed at a press conference covered by the club's official Twitter account that Riyad Mahrez and Jeffrey Schlupp both sat out training on Thursday morning.

Mahrez and Schlupp were away with their respective national sides during the latest international break, and they only returned to England earlier today.

As a result, Ranieri gave them the day off from Leicester training, putting their involvement in the Foxes' match against Southampton at the weekend in doubt.

Mahrez was away with Algeria over the past fortnight, and he started both of his country's matches against Guinea and Senegal.

Schlupp, meanwhile, played the full 90 minutes for Ghana in a 1-1 draw with Canada in midweek.

It is, therefore, no surprise that the duo could be set to miss out on starting for Leicester on Saturday, but that will be a blow for the side.

Schlupp and Mahrez were both in excellent form before the international break, and Ranieri will be hoping that they can get back to those levels quickly after returning to the King Power Stadium.
