The one area Sunderland must improve in the January market

Allardyce deflated

The club need to bring in a new defender.

The international break has passed but the lack of Premier League action meant not much was happening at the clubs up and down the country.

Which means they could begin to start considering where they should improve in the winter.

The January window is, like Christmas, deceptively close, so where should Sunderland consider improving when the window reopens.

There is no doubting where the Black Cats need to improve and it is the heart of defence.

Younes Kaboul has proved nothing but a disaster since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, making countless mistakes as Sunderland falter at the wrong end of the table.

Sebastian Coates, brought in from Liverpool after a successful loan spell, has not fared much better.

John O'Shea is still prone to mistakes and is losing his pace as age catches up with him and the club are currently leaking goals.

Sam Allardyce is now at the helm and you can be sure he will be bringing in a new defender during the January market as he looks to strengthen the side ahead of a relegation fight.
