Sunderland fans react on Twitter to Jordan Pickford's headline-stealing England Under-21 display

Sunderland youngster Jordan Pickford showed his quality for the England Under-21's.

Sunderland fans have been caught up with the appointment of Sam Allardyce as their new manager in recent days, but they were given something else to talk about on Tuesday evening.

Young goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, 21, has come up through the ranks with the Black Cats, and after loan spells with Darlington, Alfreton Town, Burton Albion, Carlisle United and Bradford City, Pickford is now in the Championship with Preston North End.

Pickford has taken over from Sam Johnstone at Deepdale, and the transition has been seamless, with the Sunderland-owned goalkeeper turning in a number of fine performances for the Lilywhites.

Those displays have now made him the first choice goalkeeper for the England Under-21's, and he showed just why he is so highly-rated on Tuesday evening.

The England Under-21's coasted to a 3-0 win over Kazakhstan at the Ricoh Arena, and Pickford grabbed the headlines with a stunning assist for the second goal, scored by winger Nathan Redmond.

Pickford's distribution has earned rave reviews at Preston, and he showed it yet again with a pinpoint, long range pass straight to Redmond's feet, before the Norwich City winger did the rest.

Sunderland supporters then took to Twitter after seeing Pickford's assist, with many proclaiming that he should be in the first team next season - if they can keep him that long, with some fans worried about losing him to a bigger club in the near future.

Here are some of the reactions from Sunderland fans after Pickford's display for the England Under-21's on Tuesday...
