Speaking to talkSPORT (aired at 08:40), Dutch legend Ronald de Boer has suggested that Ronald Koeman will leave Southampton for another Premier League job, rather than to take the Netherland’s head coach role.
De Boer said: “There are no real contenders for this job [the Netherlands' role]. Koeman is very happy with Southampton, and and his next job will maybe be an even bigger team in England.”
Koeman is currently in his second season as Saints’ head coach, and has impressed since moving to St Mary’s Stadium.
He qualified Southampton for Europe last season, although they were knocked out in the qualifying stages, and is hoping to repeat that feat this term - or even fight for a potential Champions League spot.
Koeman is a talented manager, who seems a perfect fit for Southampton’s behind the scenes set-up, but he has been linked with taking over the Netherlands in recent months, considering their dreadful Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.
Guus Hiddink left his job earlier in the camapign, for Danny Blind to currently lead Oranje, and having missed out on qualification for the Finals tournament, many think Koeman should take the job - considering he is currently the most talented Dutch coach around.
However, De Boer believes that Koeman will not want to leave Southampton any time soon, and even when he does, he thinks that it will be for a bigger club in England - rather than international management.
This will please Southampton fans in the short-term, but will also have a number of big teams whetting their appetites at the potential hiring of Koeman in the future.
