Report: Newcastle United not interested in wantaway Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes

The Magpies are happy to persist with their current options between the sticks.

Newcastle United will not make an approach for out-of-favour Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes, according to the Chronicle.

The report claims that there has been no contact between the clubs and that the Magpies will instead rely upon Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and Andy Woodman during Tim Krul’s absence.

Valdes has had a torrid time at United since his arrival in January this year and has featured on just two occasions so far.

The former Barcelona man has never seen eye to eye with Louis van Gaal and has no future at the club. His agent, Ginés Carvajal, admitted today that his client would be leaving Old Trafford in January – as reported by the Guardian – but St James Park is seemingly not an option.

The possibility of Steve McClaren drafting in a free agent as cover for Krul has been hampered by the fact that his squad has reached its 25-man limit, meaning a current member would have to be released before a new addition could join.
