Players from Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Arsenal, Southampton, Norwich City and more all started for England's under-21s this week.
England’s under-21 side enjoyed a fine victory against Kazakhstan as they maintained their 100 per cent start to their Euro 2017 qualifying campaign.
Gareth Southgate’s side were third in Group 9 heading into the match but that was mainly due to the fact that they had only played two matches while the two teams directly above them – Switzerland and Norway – had played three and four respectively.
But goals from Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Norwich City’s Nathan Redmond and Arsenal’s Chuba Akpom ensured it was a relatively comfortable night for the young lions.
Liverpool had two players on show in the form of summer signing Joe Gomez and exciting winger Jordon Ibe, while Tottenham’s Eric Dier – who has excelled for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season – played the entire match.
This generation of England players is an exciting batch and some will not have given up hope of making the senior side for next summer’s Euro 2016 tournament.
Dier is probably most likely to do that if he maintains his great form for Tottenham for the rest of the season; but even if he does not make it, along with some exciting players from Liverpool, Arsenal, Southampton and more, Southgate has a core group who could take Euro 2017 by storm.
