Report: Steve McClaren to select Rob Elliot for Newcastle United's match against Norwich City

Newcastle United are suffering an injury crisis at the moment, with their top two goalkeepers out injured.

According to a report in the Daily Star, Steve McClaren will select Rob Elliot to keep goal for Newcastle United in their fixture against Norwich City.

Newcastle have been dealt a huge blow, with Tim Krul set to miss the whole of the season with a knee injury that he picked up on international duty.

Karl Darlow is the club's second choice, but the former Nottingham Forest man is also sidelined, meaning that McClaren has a big selection dilemma for the match against Norwich.

Newcastle have recalled Freddie Woodman from his loan at Crawley Town, but McClaren reportedly has reservations about throwing him into the team.

Woodman is only 18-years-old, and although there are high hopes for his future, he will be kept as back-up to Elliot for the time being.

Elliot has a point to prove at St. James' Park, as there are some doubts over whether he has the quality required to play in the Premier League

The 29-year-old has looked shaky in previous appearances, but he will need to put in a more secure performance against Norwich, if the Magpies are to win.
