Report: Everton make contact over January deal for Real Betis defender Cristiano Piccini

Real Betis, Benito Villamarin Stadium

Everton are reportedly pushing to sign Real Betis full back Cristiano Piccini.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Everton have made contact with Real Betis over a potential deal for defender Cristiano Piccini.

The Toffees have suffered a number of injuries defence already this season, with Leighton Baines, Seamus Coleman and John Stones all missing time.

Manager Roberto Martinez will be looking for more defensive cover having been forced to use the likes of Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway, and he recently took Brazilian full back Felipe Mattioni on trial in a bid to land cover for Coleman on the right hand side of his defence.

Now, Tutto Mercato Web believe that Martinez has been looking towards his native Spain for reinforcements, with Real Betis ace Cristiano Piccini a target.

The 23-year-old right back spent last season on loan at Betis last season as they won promotion back to La Liga, but he completed a permanent move back to Fiorentina this summer.

Now, with the Italian impressing in the top flight of Spanish football, interest is growing in Piccini's signature, with TMW believing that Everton have contacted Real Betis over a January deal to sign the right back.

It's stated that Betis are unlikely to let Piccini leave in January considering how impressive he has been, but Everton are trying anyway, with Martinez keen to land defensive improvements.
