The Manchester City under-21 player has been taking part in first-team training recently.
The 18-year-old right-back is a regular for City’s under-21s, for whom he has featured 24 times to date, and while he is some way off a first-team breakthrough he is clearly happy to be training with the senior stars.
Speaking to mcfc.co.uk, Maffeo said, “Obviously I have more connection with the Spanish players, Jesus Navas especially, we speak a lot of the time – he’s crazy, it’s good.
“(Pablo) Zabaleta is like my father in there. When you need advice he’s a great person to have around.”
The vast majority of City’s first-team stars are currently away on international duty but when they return they will be looking to follow on from their outstanding 6-1 victory against Newcastle United last time out.
That will no doubt have been a match that Maffeo watched with a huge smile on his face, hoping one day to follow in the footsteps of his heroes.
A versatile player who is also able to play as a centre-back if necessary, Maffeo will be set for a bright future if he heeds the advice of City’s current stars and works hard.
