Five reasons for West Ham fans to be very excited

Upton Park

West Ham United have had a great start to the new season and it could be just the start of a bright new dawn.

West Ham United headed into the latest international break in sixth place in the Premier League having started the new campaign brilliantly.

The Hammers next match is away to Crystal Palace before they welcome Chelsea to Upton Park in a match West Ham will be quietly confident of winning such is their recent progress.

Here we take a look at five reasons for West Ham fans to be optimistic for the rest of the season and beyond:

The manager

Slaven Bilic has a big reputation in the game but no one actually knew how the Croatian would do at the helm. Well they do now!

The former centre-back has settled instantly into the job and he has shown in his summer signings, his tactics and his demeanour that he is the man to bring sustained success back to West Ham.

The superstar

West Ham made some brilliant signings during the summer but the pick of the bunch was undeniably Dimitri Payet.

With four goals and four assists already, the 28-year-old is going to be the key in any and all success enjoyed at the club for the next few years.

The next generation

While West Ham have some very talented older players, they also have some of the most exciting youngsters in England right now including Martin Samuelsen and Reece Oxford.

If they can all stay and grow together the future looks very bright for the Hammers.

The returning players

West Ham have had to make do without strikers Andy Carroll and Enner Valencia for a while now but both men returned to action in a behind-closed-door friendly last week and they should soon be back challenging for a first-team spot.

The away form

If you had told any West Ham fan their club would have defeated Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City away from home before October they would have thought you mad.

But that is exactly what happened and it is clear Bilic’s side has the confidence and the ability to beat anyone in their own backyard, so with more consistency there is every chance of this being a wonderful farewell to Upton Park.
