HITC Sport understands former Derby County defender Zak Whitbread is training with Shrewsbury Town.
Shrewsbury Town are weighing up a move for former Liverpool and Derby County defender Zak Whitbread, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Whitbread is currently a free agent after leaving Derby this summer when his contract expired at the iPro Stadium.
The 31-year-old made 11 appearances for Derby last season, but a number of injuries forced the American to miss a significant amount of games.
Whitbread, who started his career with Liverpool, is keen to fix himself up with a new club and has been invited to join Shrewsbury for training so that they cast an eye over him.
Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon is in the market for a central defender to help fill the void left by Connor Goldson's departure to Brighton & Hove Albion during the summer transfer window.
Shrewsbury have conceded eight goals in their last three matches and Mellon is looking to bring in an experienced defender to help solve his side's defensive problems.
Whitbread has a wealth of experience having played for Millwall, Norwich City, Leicester City as well as Liverpool and Derby County in his career and if he impresses in training he could be offered a deal at Greenhous Meadow
