West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady comments on Allardyce at Sunderland

West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady has given her backing for Sam Allardyce to be successful at new club Sunderland.

Allardyce was appointed as boss of the Black Cats at the weekend, months after leaving the Hammers by way of mutual agreement.

Brady was part of that decision which saw Allardyce depart at the end of last season, but was still keen to talk up his virtues as a manager.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: "He’d be an excellent choice as Sunderland would benefit from his ability to have a good clean out, on and off the pitch, and his strong and disciplined leadership."

While Allardyce's spell at West Ham did not end well, with a dismal run of form early in 2015, his overall impact on West Ham was positive.

He took over a frayed squad, which had been relegated to the Championship, and managed to pull together a team able to sneak back into the Premier League through the play-offs, which as QPR are finding this season, bouncing back is not so easy.

Sunderland are still in the top flight, but the quality of the team has so far looked like a team in danger of being relegated, and as Brady points out, Allardyce's ability to sort out what needs to be changed, and go about implementing his own style, will be invaluable to their prospects of staying up.
